I like writing, usually. I especially like reading things I’ve written in the past – especially the way past. Next time I’m home I want to see if I can find some of the things I’ve written in the way past – mostly for fun, but also to see how my writing has changed over the years.
But sometimes, like right now, I don’t feel like writing. I’m out of the writing groove and it’s been really, really hard to get back into it. I have many excuses:
EXCUSE 1: “I don’t have time.” The reality: I don’t take the time.
EXCUSE 2: “No one will read it.” The reality: Judging by reader comments, I have a few faithful readers!
EXCUSE 3: “I don’t have anything to write about.” The reality: If I feel like I don’t have something to write about, that simply means I was a poor steward of the ideas that occurred to me today.
BOTTOM LINE (because I really like bottom lines): I don’t write because I feel like writing. I write because I know God has called me to write.
I believe all of us have things that God has called us to that we don’t necessarily enjoy – at least we don’t enjoy the whole process. I know , though, that as I get in the groove of writing, I will enjoy it more, I will improve, and I will be grateful I have conquered my excuses.
40 day challenge: Do something you’ve been putting off for the next 40 days. Decide to do it not because you feel like it, but because God has called you to do it. Determine that you’re going to do it, share it with someone, and go for it.
I’ll share: I’m going to blog for the next 38 days (today is day 2 of my challenge). No more excuses!
If you want, your 40 day challenge could be to read and comment on each blog… just kidding. 😉
