From Matthew’s Gospel:
“Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled…” (2:17)
“So was fulfilled what was said through the prophets…” (2:23)
“This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah…” (3:3)
“…to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah…” (4:14)
“This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah…” (8:17)
“This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah…” (12:17)
“In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah…” (13:14)
“So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet…” (13:35)
God cares about fulfilling His Word. What He promises, He fulfills. Matthew’s gospel points this out time and time again – so much of Jesus’ life pointed back to the Old Testament prophecies. I believe this is very intentional. God wanted us to know that He keeps His promises.
Depending on what “circles” of Christianity you find yourself in, you may be familiar with the gift of the Word of Knowledge, as Paul mentions in 1 Corinthians 12:8. I believe these gifts are still active in the Body of Christ, and I have personally benefited many times from the encouragement that this particular gift brings.
A year ago, someone gave me a word that confirmed many things the Lord had already spoken to my heart. He said something new, though: that God was going to use me in music and that I was going to record. Since this wasn’t something I already “knew” from God, I put it on the back burner. In fact, I had completely forgotten about it…
…Until a month ago. I was reading last year’s prayer journal and found what I had written about recording. I passed it by, not really believing it would ever happen. A few minutes after I arrived home, I got a phone call. It was a local pastor and friend who has blessed us greatly during our time in Cali.
“Friend, you’re leaving soon. I have on my heart to record you on the piano.” I was surprised and amazed. Here it was, almost a year later. I had just re-read the word God had given me. Now a friend who has the equipment and skill to record was making that word a reality.
We started recording tonight. It will be quite a process, and I look forward to seeing how God will bring the fruit. God delights to fulfill His promises.
