Everyone says they have the best mom in the world. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I suppose “best” is subjective to everyone’s comparison — but there’s one thing I know: I wouldn’t trade my mom for any other, and I can’t imagine having any mom better than her.
The older I get, the more I see my mom in myself. To say that I interact with people the same way she does is far from the truth – I still have a lot of learning and growing to do to reach people the way she does. But I see that as I grow and mature, my interest in people and my desire to communicate is modeled after what I have seen in my mom.
My parents came and visited me in Colombia in January, sharing in my life in Monteria for just over a week. I am so grateful for that time we shared and the taste they got of where I had been living. I’m so glad they were willing to join me in the adventure of life and language cross-culturally. I am amazed at how my mom made friends out of people with whom she barely shared a language. Her pure interest in people, in life, and experience opened up amazing doors of conversation.
I am honored to have the mom that I have. I am who I am today largely because of my parents. I am so grateful that I have their legacy to carry on.
I love you, mom!
