I’m sorry for the long period of silence on the blog! My days the past couple of weeks have been very full of class, meeting with students, learning Arabic (if you don’t know why, feel free to ask), and doing homework.  I hope to establish a more consistent blogging pattern as I get into the swing of things here!

Each morning since June 1, I’ve been blessed to read a chapter of Abiding in Christ by Andrew Murray.  I found the book at a thrift store for $0.50 and it has been a wonderful journey these past 14 days of remembering things I’ve learned and gaining new insights into the beautiful passage of John 15:1-12.

I wanted to share something that spoke so clearly to my heart this morning.  Murray referenced Exodus 16:4, which says, “The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day.” The passage is talking about the manna that the Israelites were to gather each morning. God promised that what they would gather would certainly be enough to feed them for that day.  Such is His grace, strength, and wisdom that is available for us each day. We need not be concerned about how we’ll manage tomorrow or the rest of our lives – we must focus on gathering the manna today.

For abiding in Christ, our mornings are key. Israel was to gather each morning. Murray says, “This suggests how greatly the power to abide all day depends on the morning hour.” Each morning we have the beautiful opportunity to dwell in all He has for us and from there, abide in Him moment by moment throughout the entire day.

Today is eternally important. We need to dwell, abide, and remain in Him from the start of each day.  Only then will we be fruitful in all we do: “Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me” (John 15:4). (Remain= dwell, abide, stay, continue in, tarry)

Let’s do it today.

Bread for abiding
