I apologize for the time of silence here on the blog! I’ve been pretty occupied with events and responsibilities here in Colombia as my time winds down. I have just less than a week left; it will be a busy few days! I appreciate your prayers as I wrap up with several activities these next few days.
We’ve had some problems with flooding in the back yard. Perhaps you read my blog post, Simply Rejoice, that told the story of my emergency effort to pile dirt outside the back door to keep water from flowing into the house during the first big rain.
In order to prevent further minor disasters, we had a little cement barrier built outside the door. We’ve also attempted to create a path for the water that flows down from the roof. The other day I was working on digging the channels deeper and I started thinking about my life as a channel.
There are many forms of communication. Usually we think of our communication as our words… but we all know that actions generally communicate even stronger than words. Our communication is a channel. I have to ask myself, what is my communication channeling to those around me? Is the source the Life of God or my own feelings?
It should be natural for us to be channels of life to the people around us. After all, Jesus said: “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.”
The channels that I dug need to be frequently deepened because the mud will make then shallow and they’ll lose their ability to flow properly. In the same way, as we continue to improve in our communication and spend time with the Father, we’ll have the potency we need to give just the word or action in season that someone needs to hear. As we believe in Him, the streams of living water will continue to flow.
