I held my birthday gift with intrigue. What could be wrapped in this small package of Brazilian newsprint, tied with a Colombian-flag-colored shoelace? It was a gift from one of my dearest friends, and as soon as I got in the car I opened it. Hm… A pencil bag… With colored pens and pencils. Hm. Nice. Practical, I guess.
It wasn’t until that same friend travelled with me to Peru and I observed the way she journaled that I actually started making use of the colors.
I have solely used only black in – not blue, not red – for years. But on my first flight to Peru, I encountered a problem: my black ink ran out. I decided that maybe, just maybe, I could switch to the brown ball-point pen. But JUST for this trip.
But then I began to observe Ana Kary in our tent in the Amazon. I saw how she used color and illustrations to talk tothe Lord, and it seemed He talked to her through them, too. So I began to use colors in my journal…

Those colors have opened my eyes to many things. They have helped me define and clarify. Color, like light, brings a sort of new understanding to things I had only seen in one way – or hadn’t seen at all.
My journal isn’t the only place where I have more color. I’ve gotten bold…

I’m even stepping out in a new mixture of colors in the way I dress… Why wear solid colors when I could wear something so much more inspirational? (I know, it’s a silly face… It was a long night of recording and I’m not sure what was going through my head!)

Color has become more significant to me than it was before. Perhaps it’s forming my personality and character, too. I love to see how my Heavenly Father, the one who created color, could open my eyes to its beauty!
