“Do you think it’s ok if I get wet?” asked my friend Kary as we heard the Amazon rain dumping down. “Of course!” I replied. “Want to go for a walk?”
We were dripping within a minute of stepping outside. Halfway through our walk, some friendly neighbors did us the favor of throwing buckets of water on us – just in case we were feeling dry! We laughed and continued, enjoying the downpour.
As the rain let up and we headed back to the YWAM base which is our temporary home while we are here in Iquitos, Peru, we came upon some other neighbors playing a game of volleyball. “Volleyball!” the called out, inviting us with their actions, not knowing if we understood Spanish. We looked at each other, shrugged, and joined the game. We laughed as we played with the five adults – until someone hit the ball onto the roof next door and the rain started coming again. They invited us in.
They offered us a type of juice (that’s another story) and we sat and chatted for a long time. They told us that they play volleyball every Sunday and that they always invite passersby who are staying here at the base, but we’re only the 2nd ones to have ever accepted.
We ended the time praying for God’s blessing on the family, healing for the daughter of one of the ladies, and more revelation of the Father.
These are simple times, but oh-so important. It was so important for us to take the time, to enjoy these neighbors, and to reach out in friendship and blessing. I want the love of Christ to overflow to all those around me.
I wish I could share pictures of what’s happening here, but the internet here is very slow and limited. I will certainly send a link to more pictures when I’m able to upload!
