As you may know, I’m currently in Chicago to apply for my visa (this morning at 10:00 a.m.).  I came with a friend – we drove the 10 hours or so on Saturday. We’ve had a great time… we visited Willow Creek Church Saturday night and spent most of the day Sunday walking, riding the train, walking, eating at a couple of cool places, walking, and… well, walking (around the free zoo). 🙂 We enjoyed the day out and we were tired enough to go to bed at 9:00 last night!

This morning, I faced a decision… drive to the consulate as originally planned – then drive home from there – or to use my 3-day public transportation pass for more of its value and navigate my way to the consulate on the trains and buses.

I decided that, rather than taking my natural response of control (things are easy to control when you’re driving the vehicle) I’m going to trust God for the strategy to figure out how to get there and face the situation and do it. I was reminded the other day of one of my favorite verses from Philippians 4, as it’s written in the Amplified: “I have learned in any and all circumstances the secret of facing every situation…” (4:12). That’s the secret that I need today… to give up control and face what’s at hand.

Giving up control and facing it
