I readily admit that it has been far too long since I’ve posted here.  I recently started using Google Reader, which has caused me to read various blogs on a regular basis.  I’m re-inspired to blog and hope to do so on a more regular basis.

I was recently working on homework for a couple of hours, when I was “distracted” by some different resources, videos, and graphics that I have on my computer about the state of world gospel work and the remaining task.  I mentioned to a friend that I was refreshed by looking at these reminders of my vision, and she replied, “Yes, we tend to get a little myopic in the little things.” I couldn’t have said it any better!

Myopia is just a technical term for nearsightedness. Often, we become so caught up in what is right in front of us that we lose sight of the bigger picture.  For example, when I’m working on an assignment for school and I’m not sure what to write, the assignment becomes my world.

Then I step back and see the assignment in the scope of the course.

Then I see the course in the scope of my undergraduate degree.

Then I see my degree in the scope of this season of life.

Then I see this season of life the scope of God’s plan for my entire life.

Then, humbled, I see that somehow, God’s plan for my life fits in with His ultimate plan for His glory to be revealed to all nations (Isaiah 40:5).

When I regain this perspective, I am encouraged. Life isn’t about this moment. This moment is important, yes, and it plays a part in the bigger picture.  But life is not – and has never been – about me.

Thanks for reading. I look forward to sharing with you more often.
