Last night I went to see the movie Courageous. It definitely met my expectations! I had been looking forward to it for a long time and I was really glad that I had the chance to see it. It was moving, funny, and exciting. But this isn’t meant to be a review.

There were several things that really made me think. The idea behind the movie is that fathers need to step up and lead their families, teach their kids, and invest in eternity. At the end of the experience, there was one thing I was feeling more than anything else: gratitude. I am grateful because my family is whole. My parents taught us kids to follow Christ. They modeled a strong relationship. The invested in us in ways I’m only beginning to see.

My siblings have strong marriages and kids that, even at a young age, desire to serve the Lord.  When we’re all together, we enjoy each other. Always.

Camping was a big part of life growing up, and I still enjoy it (as you can see from my post the other night!). I can’t think of a summer that we didn’t pack up the awesome trailer that my dad made (that held all our supplies and our bikes on top) and either joined another family or went by ourselves to a local state park. One particular time, my dad and I were going to a boat-in site at Maplewood and he suggested inviting one of my friends who had recently lost her dad. He taught me to not just think about myself.

I feel so privileged to have grown up in the family I did. I know that not everyone has that opportunity. My family is an amazing gift in my life.

Dear family… “I thank my God every time I think of you…” (Phil 1:6)

My amazing family
