Everyone seems to be talking about rest these days. Everyone who’s talking to me, that is. That is to say… it keeps coming up.

Once I’m up and out of bed, I enjoy my morning routine. I make my coffee, spend some time in prayer, read the Word, then eat breakfast.  While I was eating breakfast, I noticed a big moth up in the corner. For those who remember my moth stories, you’ll recognize that this was an important reminder to me.

Here’s what I saw:

I smiled at this friendly reminder and wondered why it was today.  I sat down for a productive work day, ready to compose my monthly newsletter and do a lot of correspondance… until the electricity went out.

I found out that it was set to be out “all day.” I sighed, thinking of all the work I was going to do… and consented to reading and writing instead.  With the heat (no electricity means no fan), I was glad for the open window where I could sit and do my “work” of learning about rest.   What a beautiful thing… we can enter into His rest and do all that we do from there.

Today I realized I am very grateful for…

–Fans
–Cold water
–A fridge to put leftover food in
–A gas (rather than electric) stove
–The breeze that comes through the window
–An abundance of flowing water in the tap
