Yes, let us know (recognize, be acquainted with, and understand) Him; let us be zealous to know the Lord [to appreciate, give heed to, and cherish Him]. His going forth is prepared and certain as the dawn, and He will come to us as the [heavy] rain, as the latter rain that waters the earth.
Hosea 6:3
I greatly enjoyed the two weeks I spent in a quiet little town in Venezuela. It was a busy yet rich time of teaching, fellowship, and quiet mornings. (The lack of roosters, the surrounding mountains, the grass and trees, and the fact that the school isn’t on a main street all made for a very tranquil setting.) I continued my routine from the previous week of early mornings and not-so-late nights (I was usually in bed by 9 and up before 5).
My heart was stirred by this beautiful passage in Hosea. The NIV uses the phrase “press on.” There are times when the time and effort it takes to spend time in His Word and Presence in order to get to know Him doesn’t come as easily as we would like it to be. But we have this amazing opportunity to press on to know Him more, to cherish Him, to understand Him. (Paul talks about this, too, in Philippians 3:12-14.)
As we press on to know Him, there is one thing that is certain: He will respond.
The past two weeks in Betijoque, there were two things that were very frequent: rain and spectacular sunrises. “As certain as the dawn… He will come to us as the heavy rain,” Hosea assures us. For me, the rain and sunrise are both reminders that as we press in to know Him, He will reveal Himself to us.
