Today is very significant.  Our walk with Christ needs to be a daily one.  There seem to be three key parts to this: daily surrender, daily intimacy, and daily strength.

Daily surrender
We are all called by Jesus to daily take up our cross, deny ourselves, and follow Him (Luke 9:23).  It’s not that our surrender when we come to Christ is short of what God desires, it’s just that the nature of daily life requires daily surrender. Scripture talks about “more and more” several times. It’s not that we don’t love, it’s that we learn to love “more and more.” It’s not that we don’t have faith, but our faith grows “more and more.” We die to ourselves when we accept Christ, but we are also called to “die daily” (1 Cor 15:31).

Daily intimacy
The Israelites were commanded to gather manna daily (Ex 16:4-5). Jesus compares manna to the Word of God (John 6:58). How much more must we feed on this Food on a daily basis? The Bereans were commended for examining the scriptures daily (Acts 17:11).  Daily time with Jesus is non-negotiable when it comes to walking effectively for the Kingdom. We see many examples of Jesus’ intimacy with the Father (see Luke 5:16, 6:12, Matt 14:23, Mark 1:35). If He needed constant communication with the Father for effective life and ministry, how could we not?  “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts” (Heb 3:15). Daily obedience requires daily listening.

Daily strength
God doesn’t require us to do this on our own. He promises to respond daily, too: “Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens” (Ps 68:19). Our rest is in Him and we enter it daily as we come to Him, surrender, and trust that He will be the one to carry us through – not just through the length of life, but through today.
