This morning I finished a task that G and I had started last Saturday – pulling grasses and plants from the back yard. Our “backyard”/patio is just dirt, so anything green is easily seen.

Notice in the first two pictures below the difference:

You’ll also notice on the third picture that a couple of weeds grew right up through a piece of plastic that was buried in the dirt (the whole thing came out when I pulled it! ). As I dug and pulled, I was amazed by three things:
1 – How quickly these weeds grew – even without any water (dry season here)
2 – How strong they appeared (the fact that it popped right through the plastic)
3 – How easily they came out of the ground (I loosened some with a shovel, but most came right up by the roots)

I came to this conclusion: What grows easily is uprooted easily.

Now, I wouldn’t be able to take this illustration so far, because there are some bad things in our life that grow easily that seem to be much more difficult to uproot!  On the other hand, I think these plants can illustrate for us the fact that if we want something that will last, it will not be an overnight-sensation.

I’m learning that the things I want to have later in my life I need to plant now. I certainly won’t get a harvest if I don’t! There are several areas of confidence in God’s Word that I am going to work on planting now. I plant confidence in God’s promises by speaking them. Getting those promises in my heart and on my lips will bear much fruit in years to come. I am determined to be faithful in planting now.

The planting and growing process takes time – but the results will not be easily uprooted.

What grows quickly
