Most Christians, it seems, are eager to discover and complete something we call “the will of God.”  “I just want to know the will of God,” I’ve heard (and said). “After so long asking His will and still not knowing what I’m supposed to do with my life, I’m frustrated – what’s the point of asking if He won’t tell me?” a friend expressed to me recently.  I’ve had similar thoughts many times.  “Lord, why won’t you just show me Your will?”

Yesterday I was chatting with a friend who helped me see how our obedience is a direct reflection of our faith. As our faith develops in all that Christ is, the natural outflow of our abiding in Him is obedience to what He says – both the “logos” (the written Word) and the “rhema” (the spoken Word).

What is His will if it’s not His bidding on a daily basis?  The angels understand: “Praise the LORD, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word” (Ps. 103:20).

We seek His will for our life’s plan but what about seeking His voice for our daily obedience?

Today when you hear His voice, don’t harden your hearts…” (Heb 3:15, NLT).

I need to seek Him today, ask for Him to speak to me today about what His will is – for today. What would He have me do? Who would He have me talk to? How does He desire to use me today?

What about you? Have you ever found yourself so caught up in asking for a revelation His will that your heart gets hardened to what His bidding is for today?

Will or bidding?
